Hand vaccination and the AEV-8: what changes?

Hand injection is the established method, and in the hands of an experienced crew it delivers. Its cost is paid again every season: the crew, the shift hours and results that vary from person to person. The table below shows what changes when the same work is done on the AEV-8. The left-hand column describes hand vaccination in general terms; practice varies between facilities. The right-hand column uses only the values published on this site.

In short. With hand vaccination three things are decided anew every season: who will do the work, how even the dose will be, and how reliable the count will be. On the AEV-8 all three are settled by the machine — the same dose, the same point, a complete count — and the work is done by the facility's own shift staff.
